Impressions of the annual meeting 2022

The annual meeting 2022 of our bio-N3MR network took place at TU Dortmund University and was organized by Prof. Rasmus Linser and his team. The live symposium 2022 was eagerly anticipated following the cancelation of the 2021 meeting due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We had the pleasure to welcome two internationally leading scientists as key note speakers, who both play essential roles in the continuing development and application of NMR spectroscopy for the study of complex biological problems. Prof. Christian Griesinger is a director at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, where he heads the department "NMR-based Structural Biology". His research addresses biological and pharmacological problems by applying NMR spectroscopy to determine three-dimensional structures, dynamics and binding behaviors of biological macromolecules and complexes. His research has revealed mechanistic understandings of enzyme catalysis and enabled fundamental insights into protein-protein recognition and protein assemblies. Prof. Clemens Glaubitz is head of the "Membrane protein research by NMR" laboratory at Goethe University in Frankfurt. His research team uses solid-state NMR to resolve molecular mechanisms of membrane proteins, characterize lipid-protein interactions and study the effect of small molecules on membrane order, dynamics and polymorphism. Dr. Patrick Wikus, Business Line Director at Bruker BioSpin, presented current developments and technical challenges of ultra-high field superconducting NMR magnets. PhD students, postdocs and PIs from the groups forming the network took the opportunity to present their research in excellent oral and poster presentations. Another highlight of the symposium was a guided tour of the NMR spectrometer hall and the helium recovery facility of TU Dortmund University. There was ample opportunity for the participants to make new contacts, discuss science and renew existing connections during coffee breaks, poster sessions and the joint BBQ. In addition to the group photo shown below, more pictures can be found in the gallery. These photos depict the relaxed atmosphere of a successful symposium.
