Impressions of the annual meeting 2008
The second annual meeting of the bio-N3MR network took place in Jülich on November 13th, 2008. We had the privilege to welcome Prof. Dr. Stephan Grzesiek from the Biozentrum of the University Basel as our guest speaker. PhD students and Postdocs of the laboratories organized in the bio-N3MR network presented their research in short talks and during the poster session. New products for recombinant protein production were introduced by representatives of two biotech companies: Merck Biosciences and Invitrogen Life Sciences.
Please enjoy the snapshots of the annual meeting 2008 of the bio-N3MR network in Jülich:

Prof. Stephan Grzesiek, Basel, stressed the enormous potential of NMR spectroscopy for the investigation of protein structure, dynamics, and folding in his lecture.

Nina Link, Essen, presented results from her PhD project.

Melanie Schwarten, Düsseldorf, discussed the advantages of fast NMR methods for investigation of proteins with limited solubility.

Meeting attendees gained detailed insight into the research projects of the partner institutions and new methodological developments.

Christian Sinnen, Essen, studies ligand-induced interdomain interactions of the protein Pin by NMR spectroscopy in his PhD project.

Dr. Henrik Müller, Postdoc in Jülich, presented solid-state NMR data on protein fibrils.

The coffee break offered ample opportunity for discussions, e.g. between specialists in solid-state NMR (Prof. Henrike Heise und Dr. Wolfgang Hoyer (middle), Düsseldorf) and in liquid-state NMR (Sven Schünke, Jülich).

Prof. Peter Bayer, Essen, in discussion with Jun.-Prof. Raphael Stoll, Bochum (left).

The first chief of the Bio-NMR laboratory in Jülich (Prof. Stephan Grzesiek, now at Basel) is pleased about meeting his successor and current full professor at the University Düsseldorf, Dieter Willbold (left).
