Impressions of the annual meeting 2011

The one day annual meeting of the bio-N3MR network was held as a joint symposium with the NRW Research School BioStruct on September 14th at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and was part of the BioStruct MasterClass 2011 . The invited lecture on NMR spectroscopic studies of protein dynamics was presented by Dr. Martin Blackledge of the Institut de Biologie Structurale Jean-Pierre Ebel (IBS) in Grenoble (France). The outstanding contributions of Dr. Blackledge on conformational flexibility of proteins and on the role of dynamics for protein function are highly appreciated in the scientific community. Three young researchers from NMR groups organized in the bio-N3MR network presented results of their PhD projects in short talks. The poster session provided detailed insight into research of additional PhD students. Poster prizes were awarded for four outstanding contributions. The second guest lecture of the day, invited by BioStruct , was presented by renowned Prof. Dr. Knud Nierhaus from Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin. Prof. Nierhaus gave a fascinating talk on function and regulation of the ribosome. Following the stimulating talks and poster contributions the participants gathered at the botanical garden of the University and enjoyed the BBQ and lively discussions.
